© 2026 Nitpik · ABN 72 269 116 028 · Melbourne, Victoria · Visual, interior cosmetic finish inspections only — no external areas. Each report is Nitpik's opinion of what was seen on site at that point in time, for reference only. It does not certify anything. Not a building inspection under the Building Act 1993 and not a substitute for one. No structural, waterproofing, services, pest, pre-purchase or pre-sale inspections. Items are referenced, for reference only, to the Guide to Standards and Tolerances published by the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC). The Guide is informative only. In the BPC's own words: The Guide is not legislation, a building contract or a technical construction manual. It does not replace the requirements of relevant legislation, the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards or contractual obligations. It should not be used to determine whether building work complies with regulatory requirements or to provide technical or legal advice. To help prevent disputes, parties to a building contract may agree on the standards and quality of workmanship they consider appropriate to their building project. If the legislative or contractual obligations are not clear, then the parties may use this Guide to help resolve a dispute. Whilst the Guide may be used to assist in the identification of a defect by reference to industry accepted tolerances, the intention is to facilitate the resolution of disputes and not provide the definitive determination of whether building work is considered defective. Exceedance of any tolerances nominated in the Guide should prompt an assessment to understand the underlying cause of the issue, to assist with any intended resolution or rectification work. It is recommended that this assessment be undertaken in consultation with a suitably registered building practitioner. The 2026 edition applies to contracts entered into, or work started, on or after 1 August 2026 and does not apply retrospectively. We point out what we see; we make no recommendations. Engaging a registered building inspector is your decision. Reports are for the paying client only. Full scope →
